Job: Software Engineer
Time at Lexicon: 7 months
What does your typical day at Lexicon look like?
I’m at the clients’ every day. We do daily stand-ups and discuss what occurred the day before and what the current work expectations are. We also discuss any problems we might encounter and which teams we need to collaborate with. We tend to have a lot of meetings as a team and with the BA’s. Sometimes it’s super crazy and sometimes it’s super chilled, just depends on the day.
What’s your favourite thing about working at Lexicon?
The people are definitely the first thing that comes to my mind. You can freely chat with anyone around here, it’s so easy. I love the activities we do as a company, like Lunch & Learns, Friday drinks, birthdays, Halloween; all those events are always a great opportunity to be with everyone.
So how did you get into what you do? Have you always wanted to be doing this?
After I graduated, I tried starting my own business and it didn’t really work out… I then proceeded to work in the mobile and banking industries. I then got a job at Aconex, while still in India at this point. Following this, I was given the opportunity to come to Australia and work for Aconex here in Melbourne. That was a huge opportunity for me and a big move! Moving here allowed me to be embedded in Australian culture and understand how things work here. It’s been close to 5 years in Australia now and I love it here.
Where’s the best city you’ve ever been to?
I would have to say Melbourne! I don’t really adventure out much but I love my city. Melbourne has great weather all-round. Melbournians are really relaxed and welcoming. I also find that there are great entertainment activities here and a good public transport system, so I’m not complaining.
What do you do outside of Lexicon?
I tend to do a lot of leisure activities like playing sports with my daughter, or video gaming. I like to catch up with my friends or go sightseeing, and I always try to go on vacation twice a year, if time and work permits!
What’s something that most people might not know about you?
I’m really into photography! When I hang out with friends I’m always the group photographer and I enjoy playing around with different cameras and lenses.
Are there any apps that you couldn’t live without?
Whatsapp for sure! It’s the best communication app by far, you can easily chat with friends here or overseas and video calling is always of good quality. You can also text with data or wifi, its just a good all-rounder.
Is there any advice that you’d give to your younger self?
Communicate; ask as many questions as you want, there is no such thing as a stupid question if it allows you to clarify things! Also, be open to learning new things and sharing what you know!!
